The international pop sensation, Justin Bieber is helming his live concert in India for the first time on May 10, 2017. And performing alongside him is Indian actress Sonakshi Sinha. Everything was fine and audience were all prepped up for the big show until singer Kailash Kher expressed his opinion on the same. Talking to the media recently, he said that having an actor perform with a singer of such stature gives out a wrong impression overseas. His statement read:
“I read somewhere that Canadian singer Justin Bieber is coming to India, and actress Sonakshi will perform at the gig. They will think that Sonakshi must be a big singer in India. And then she will get concert offers from Canada, and then probably Sonakshi will laugh them off saying ‘I am not a singer but an actor’.”
While this definitely left the people divided, another popular young name in the industry, Armaan Malik too took to Twitter to write what he thought of the issue. Agreeing with Kher’s statement, he said:
“Agree with @Kailashkher sir! Actors are actors & singers are singers. Leave the stage & mic to us, that’s our playground not yours.”
Though, Sonakshi tried to take him down by saying:
“And this is definitely not the same tune you were singing when you wanted me to sing for you”
And
“A secure artist wud always encourage another artist to grow their skills and follow their dreams. Art in any form should not be suppressed.”

It’s a different story that Armaan replied to her tweet by telling her that it was not him, but his brother and musician Amaal Malik who offered her the said song.

Now, the debate can easily be elongated by taking sides. And also by explaining why Sonakshi is wrong or Mr. Kher’s point stands justified or vice-versa. But, here are a few names we think could have easily replaced Sonakshi and still kept the glamour and stardom intact on the stage with Mr. Bieber.
Daler Mehndi:
The singer is probably one of the most terrific singer-performers we have in the country. His energy level and command over music is completely unmatchable. Sample this.
Mika Singh:
Apart from giving some of the peppiest party numbers in Bollywood, Mika is also a youth icon. His popularity in North India is massive and he is also somebody who always keeps the glamour quotient up in his performances. Why not, him? Or both Mika and Daler together, like this.
AR Rahman:
Remember the last time when Coldplay was in the country? We made the music maestro himself, AR Rahman perform live with him. And he too didn’t disappoint us and rendered a beautiful version of Vande Mataram with Chris Martin. Why can’t we trust him yet again to spread the magic?
Priyanka Chopra:
Come, on! She is our very own desi girl and one of the top notch celebrities who has put India on the global map. Plus, her basic path to stardom abroad was her love for music and nobody can question the ‘exotic’ glamour she brings along with her. Priyanka and Justin could have been a scintillating match.

Sona Mohapatra:
The singer has an outstandingly raw voice and her jam session with Justin would have made for a great stage performance. Plus, her command over classical music and Justin’s pop tunes could have created a magic like never before.
And if Sonakshi was to still be roped-in, why just her then? Why not a concoction of all the good voices from Bollywood and having Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, and Parineeti Chopra too, along with Sonakshi on the stage. Even Justin wouldn’t mind being surrounding with such talented beauties!
