The high on anticipation film Rangoon directed by Vishal Bhardwaj released today. Starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in pivotal roles, the film is set against the backdrop of World War II. Before the film’s release, the makers did go through a process of self-censorship and chopped off 70 scenes from the film. This decision was taken to make Rangoon sleeker.
But looks like this decision has increased doubts in the mind of the leading lady. Post the film’s release, while speaking to the media Kangana said many of her brilliant scenes of the film were deleted.
Kangana reportedly said, “I didn’t think (I’ll be appreciated this much). Many of my favourite scenes, which were important for my graph, were chopped off. I prepare my character’s graph in a linear pattern and when I saw the film, Vishal sir explained why he cut those scenes.”
However, Kangana added she didn’t have any problems with the makers. She thought the decision was a legitimate one.
“But when I thought that several top-notch scenes of my graph have been cut, all my hopes were shattered. I thought now my work will be so-so, it won’t be appreciated that much. But despite that people are loving it. I am very happy,” added Kangana.
In Rangoon, Kangana essayed the role of Jaanbaaz Julia. Now, Kangana may have thought her performance might not get her accolades, but critics beg to differ. Many critics have said Kangana was the saving grace of the film and no one else would have pulled Julia’s role other than her.
