Lisa Haydon participated in the World Breastfeeding Week and posted a picture on Instagram for the same. The picture showed Lisa breastfeeding her new born son Zack Lalvani. This initiative by Lisa was lauded by many and got her praises for taking steps towards normalizing breastfeeding. But as it happens in the culture of Internet, Lisa was also trolled and got hate comments for posting the picture. It is sad that all trolls did was focussed on Lisa’s picture and failed to understand the motive behind it.
World Breastfeeding Week is an annual celebration which is held in more than 120 countries from August 1 to August 7. Over 540 events are held worldwide in more than 79 countries with over 4,06,620 participants. The main motive of this celebration is to normalize breastfeeding and spread awareness about its benefits. Breastfeeding a baby for the first six months after birth yields to health benefits. Breastfeeding protects the baby from diseases like pneumonia, and it also contributes to growth and development. In 2016, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) started a 15-year-long journey to sustainable development. They connected all the sustainable development goals to breast feeding.

This initiative deserves attention because spreading awareness about breastfeeding would help everyone in the long run and get the world rid off of many problems including poverty. In this scenario, the fact that many celebrities are talking about it should be celebrated. Having celebs on board on something so important ensures a wider reach. In the West, celebs like Jennifer Garner, Mila Kunis and Beyonce, have posted pics of them breastfeeding babies.
But when Lisa did the same, she was body shamed for it. After Lisa posted the picture, her Instagram was flooded with comments in which she was called nasty things. Few said she was doing it for publicity and others said this was just a way of flaunting her breasts. Most of them posting hate comments did not understand Lisa was spreading an important message. However, it must be noted that there were few who understood Lisa’s motive and praised her for the picture. Some even fought with naysayers but got abused by them.
