Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan worked for the first time in Behen Hogi Teri and the movie was not impressive. Read review here

Behen Hogi Teri, the first on-screen outing of Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan, doesn’t live up to the expectations. Since Rajkummar Rao took a break from his serious roles to do a light-hearted rom-com, Behen Hogi Teri was an anticipated movie, but it failed to strike a chord. As evident from the trailer, the movie is set in Lucknow and tells the story of Gattu, who falls in love with his neighbour Binny. Now, since Gattu and Binny are neighbours, a romance between them is a far-sighted dream as they are ‘supposed’ to behave like siblings. How Gattu and Binny fight against odds to get together forms the crux of the story.

The plot of Behen Hogi Teri tries hard to be a movie that blends romance and fun, but fails to hold even one genre. The romance in the movie seems superimposed. Since it is set in a small town, to show the concept of dating a song is used to tell viewers about the relationship status of the lead pair.

This movie does little effort to portray romance in a new light. The cliche path of the girl refusing a guy a billion times and then finally agreeing to him is used in this movie again. It is sad that the makers failed to utilise the brilliant actors like Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan in the movie. Their performances are laden with elements we have already seen before, making the movie a drag.

What’s hot:

The only thing worth celebrating in this movie is Rajkummar Rao. It is the immense talent of this actor that sustains the movie. The way he mouthed his dialogues or his mannerisms of a small town guy make this movie watchable.

What’s not:

Behen Hogi Teri would have been a good movie if the story offered something new. The movie carries a heavy bag of things we have already seen before, making it boring.
