Bollywood films over the years have been known for heroism and providing wholesome entertainment. The theatrical trailer of Munna Michael promised that the film belongs to the space that Bollywood is known for. However, the film fails to deliver in all aspects. Leaving the novelty factor aside, the least we expected from a film like Munna Michael is entertainment, alas, instead of entertaining, the film is a never ending, a boring saga which is flawed right at the script level.
Munna Michael could have been a ‘formula under dog’ story, but in an attempt to add ‘Masala’, it ends up being a complete mess. Director Sabbir Khan fails to establish a connection with any of the characters which result in an emotional quotient of the film comes across as forced and laboured. The first half and second half of the film have completely different story to say and it seems as if we are watching two different films. The ambition of Munna to become a professional dancer takes a back seat as the film progresses and the character which should have evolved with the story ends up being an underdog throughout.
The opening credit of the film establishes Munna as the only person in Mumbai apart from his father, who can dance like Michael Jackson, but what’s next? His character has no graph what so ever.

A film having dance in its backdrop requires music that can hold attention throughout. But, in this case, the music is as annoying as the film. Apart from the Ding Dang and Swag, all other songs just create an unnecessary noise.
While the action in Baaghi and Heropanti had a ‘wow’ element, it falls flat in Munna Michael. There is no reason why Tiger Shroff gets into a fight with everyone as the action sequences pop out of nowhere. It seems as if the director has ‘inserted’ action in this film just to appeal to Tiger Shroff’s fan-base as the story had no scope at all for action.

Tiger Shroff is now a three films old and by now, we have concluded that he cannot act. He made an attempt to act in Baaghi, but here, even the minuscule of effort seems invisible. Apart from a few dance sequences, Tiger Shroff disappoints. Nawazuddin Siddiqui goes over the top as the bad guy, Mahendra in the film. He lifts the film at certain instances with his quirky one liners, but that’s all about it. And mind you, this isn’t a compliment for someone who has proved his worth as an actor time and again. Nidhii Agerwal deserved a better film as her launch pad in this industry. In his special appearance, Ronit Roy looks uncomfortable and miscast. The rest of supporting cast including Pankaj Tripathi is loud for no reason.
Munna Michael will be the second flop for Tiger Shroff after A Flying Jatt as it neither entertains nor has anything new to offer. It is a commercial product made in the name of a film to showcase the lead actor’s dancing skills and flexibility.
