Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Sooraj Sharma and Mehreen Peerzada’s starrer Phillauri releases today in theaters. Since the inception, the movie has created a lot of buzz thereby increasing the curiosity level of the fans. Directed by Anshai Lal, Phillauri has been produced by Anushka Sharma’s banner after NH 1O. Here is the Phillauri movie review for the audience who are thinking whether they should go for the movie or not?
Plot:
The story is about Canada returnee Sooraj Sharma (Kanan) who is set to marry Mehreen Peerzada (Anu). But due to some circumstances, the priest asks Kanan to marry a tree before getting married to the girl. The guy duly agrees and in doing so gets unintentionally married to Anushka Sharma (a ghost named Shashi). What follows next is a mysterious insight as to why Shashi is haunting the newly married couple.
Characterisation:
Anushka Sharma (Shashi)
You see Anushka’s character and you get reminded of friendly ghost Casper. After giving some wonderful performances in the past, Anushka’s character of Shashi is friendly and bubbly. She is funny and yet she has a serious past that gets unfolded in layers. You might not get scared by her but surely fall in love with her character in the film.
Diljit Dosanjh (Phillauri)
Diljit Dosanjh plays the role of a lover boy who charms everyone in his neighborhood with his singing skills. He gets romantically involved with Shashi and the story is all about what happens next. The chemistry between Anushka and Diljit could not charm us. This is the first time that they have been paired together and the freshness of that is bang on. But there is something missing in totality.
Sooraj Sharma (Kanan)
After Life of Pi, expectations have already been high from Sooraj Sharma and Phillauri is definitely the next big Bollywood move in his career. His performance pulls out the pun seamlessly and his comic timings do crack the audience in certain portions of the film.
Mehreen Peerzada (Anu)
Mehreen Peerzada aka Anu plays the love interest of Sooraj Sharma aka Kannan. We wish we could see more of her in the film. She has tremendous potentials.
Verdict:
Anushka Sharma does her best. This is probably the first time that the actress essayed the role of a friendly ghost. Her performance is the only highlight of the film. After a point of time, even Anushka fails to impress due to her repetitive ‘ghostly affairs’. Apart from Anushka, Life of Pi fame Sooraj Sharma gives an impressive performance as an NRI. Mehreen Peerzada’s character could have been utilized more. The pace of the movie is slow and the script falters at times. So if you are an Anushka Sharma’s fan, then this movie is for you.
