Rajkummar Rao has always impressed with his choice of movies and it looks like with Newton, which will release on September 22, he has done it again

If there is one actor who doesn’t cease to impress all with his acting prowess it is Rajkummar Rao. The actor has pushed boundaries with every film and he has done the same with his upcoming movie. Titled Newton, the film talks about the importance of voting and aims to spread awareness about it. In this film directed by Amit V Masurkar, Rajkummar plays the role of a government clerk responsible for conducting voting in a Maoist influenced area.

The trailer establishes Newton as the one who lives by the rules. Quite early in the trailer, Sanjay Mishra makes him realize his problem, that Newton wanted commendation for doing his duty. With this realization, Newton goes to conduct voting in a place which is laden with Maoist influence. Amid all the tensions in the area, Newton wants to ensure free and fair elections are conducted and goes through many hurdles to achieve the sa,e.

As Newton, Rajkummar Rao aces his act. He delivers thought-provoking dialogues. One can be assured that this movie will have no dearth of powerful performances from Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjay Mishra, who will be seen in supporting roles. The kind of movies Rajkummar has been doing off late proves he knows how to blend social issues and give them a commercial touch.

The movie received a warm response at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. A critic had written this about the film:

Newton is a touching, personal and very human film about the strength of one very resolute rookie election clerk to uphold the democratic process in a rebel-threatened area

Slated for a release September 22, Newton also focuses on a really important human tendency. In the trailer, Rajkummar says, “Jab tak kuch nai badloge dost, kuch nai badlega” which is translated to, “If you change nothing, nothing will change.” Worth a thought, ain’t it?
