India has zeroed in on its entry to the 90th Annual Academy Awards and it is none other than Amit V Masurkar’s black comedy movie Newton. The film starring Rajkummar Rao as the central character Newton Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Anjali Patil was met with warm responses by the audience following its opening today on September 22. Newton has received positive reviews from critics as well.
Newton is the story of a government clerk named Newton Kumar, played by Rajkummar Rao, who is sent to the jungles of Chattisgarh, an area over-run by naxals, for election duty. Through dark humour, the film depicts a serious subject whilst, also featuring a strong plot and cast.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta on Friday posted a tweet sharing the joyful news of Newton’s entry into the Foreign Language Film category for Oscars 2018.
#Newton is India's entry to the Oscars. The best choice in years by the federation.

If films like ASeparation and Children of Heaven made it to the Oscar nominations so can #Newton. It is our best shot. @ManMundra go for it!
