Bengali film-makers, Shiboprasad Mukerjee and Nandita Roy filed a case against the makers of Hindi Medium accusing them of plagiarism and got an injunction on the world television premiere of the film. The director duo were shocked to discover a lot of similarities between Hindi Medium and their 2014 hit Bengali film, Ramdhanu.
The duo filed a case of copyright infringement against the makers of Hindi Medium at Alipore Court in West Bengal on 5th June 2017. The judge had imposed a restraining order on release of the film on any other platform that includes DVD, VCD, Digital, Television and other screening platforms till July 28.
However, a month after filing the case, the makers of Ramdhanu have withdrawn the case against the film. According to reports, the director duo could not prove the similarities between the two films in the court of law following which they took the decision to withdraw the case against team Hindi Medium. The withdrawal of case has proved to be a moral victory for the producers of Hindi Medium i.e. T Series and Maddock Films.
The Irrfan Khan film that released in May went on to emerge a huge success at the box-office. The film earned over Rs 60 crore at the box-office despite facing competition from Half Girlfriend starring Arjun Kapoor, and Shraddha Kapoor among-st others in a pivotal role.

The movie directed by Saket Chaudhary went on to win over the audiences and critics alike and the positive word of mouth publicity resulted in a good run for the film at the box-office. Hindi Medium was a story about how education that is supposed to be a tool of enlightenment becomes a tool to create inequality.
The film released across the globe on May 19. The movie also starred Saba Qamar and Deepak Dobriyal in pivotal roles.
