After earning accolades for his role of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in MS Dhoni: An Untold Story, Sushant Singh Rajput is back as a romantic hero in Dinesh Vijan’s upcoming film Raabta. The 31-year-old actor is paired alongside Kriti Sanon in the film which releases on June 9.
Sushant has come a long way since playing the boy-next-door Manav in Ekta Kapoor’s superhit daily soap Pavitra Rishta. After winning the runners-up trophy in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 4 and other television shows, he made his Bollywood debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! And there was not looking back for the Delhi boy.
The Shuddh Desi Romance actor is definitely a superstar-in-waiting. Here are five reasons why:
Good looking as hell: The foremost thing which makes Sushant Singh Rajput an ideal candidate for superstardom is his good looks. He has maintained his lean physique since his days in television and continues to charm his fans. In Raabta, he plays a romantic role and his cute look gives his contemporaries a stiff competition. He adorns the covers of glossy magazines and female fans are find it hard not to swoon over him.
A small screen wonder: Sushant Singh Rajput began his acting career with television, a medium which demands gruelling hard work and sincerity. After a supporting role in Ekta Kapoor’s daily soap Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, he shot to limelight in her popular show Pavitra Rishta. Essaying the role of Manav Deshmukh, Sushant became a household name as the soap ascended new heights of popularity. It was his stint in television reality shows like Zara Nachke Dikhaa and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa which opened the gates of Bollywood for him.
Sheer hard work: If reports are to be believed, Sushant went through 1,000 footages of former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to understand his mannerisms. He trained with former cricketer Kiran More for 13 months to perfect his batting techniques and suffered a hairline fracture while perfecting MSD’s helicopter shot. His hard work paid dividends as he was praised in Neeraj Pandey’s biopic on Dhoni.
No qualms in experimenting: He has played a cricketer, detective, lover boy and will soon be essaying the role of a RAW agent in an upcoming film. That’s Sushant Singh Rajput for you. The monologue in Shuddh Desi Romance speaks volumes about his character. The honesty with which he plays his character wins the hearts of viewers. Even in Aamir Khan-starrer PK, Sushant won accolades with the cameo role of a Pakistani student Sarfaraz. His chemistry with Anushka Sharma set the screen on fire, as fans are eager to watch both the actors to share screen space again.
A brilliant dancer: Besides being a versatile actor, Sushant is also known for his dancing prowess. In other words, a complete superstar material. Remember his brilliant performance in the title song of Shuddh Desi Romance? He has also performed in various film award shows and got noticed by the bigwigs in the industry. Who knows he might do a dance-based role in future? Keep your fingers crossed for good.
Mah life, mah rules: During the trailer launch of Raabta, Sushant got into a heated argument with a journalist when asked about his views on death sentence given to Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan. The actor who plays a spy in his upcoming film Romeo Akbar Walter, refused to comment as he was not well informed about the subject. He chose to stay mum and not drag himself in an unwanted controversy even if it meant locking horns with the media. On the other hand, he removed his surname Rajput on Twitter to support Sanjay Leela Bhansali when the filmmaker was assaulted on the sets of Padmavati by members of Rajput Karni Sena in Jaipur.
