Salman Khan ‘crying and getting beaten up’ didn’t work, Salim Khan has the best explanation on Tubelight’s failure

Salim Khan perfectly explains why Tubelight failed at Box Office because of Salman Khan and his fans. He also talks about returning money to distributors

Salman Khan’s last release, Tubelight tanked at the Box Office. He also compensated the distributors for their losses. A lot has already been said about why this Kabir Khan directorial could not strike a chord with the audience. Even ardent Salman Khan fans did not warm up to his performance in the film. However, in a recent interview, veteran screen writer and Khan’s father, Salim Khan, talked about Tubelight and elaborated on the reason behind its failure. What he said makes the most sense among all the other theories behind the film’s unwelcoming response that have been doing rounds.

While he talked about many things like Bollywood having a dearth of good screenwriters and filmmakers not focusing on making films for the audience, his comments on Tubelight‘s failure hold a lot of importance. He said that Tubelight was not a bad film but Salman’s lovers can’t see him crying or getting beaten up on screen.

Tubelight was a good film, which would have done well if any other actor had starred in it, but to have an action hero like Salman getting constantly beaten up and crying all the time just didn’t work with the audience,” said the senior Khan.

He also talked about how Salman Khan is no Raj Kapoor who could pull off every character with an equal amount of ease. Salim Khan said:

Someone like Raj Kapoor could do any role, the common man, the lover, the comedian, but Salman doesn’t have that sort of an image. The audience kept expecting him to fight back and when he did retaliate a bit towards the end, the entire audience cheered for him, but it never went beyond a couple of blows.

Tubelight was one of the most anticipated releases this year. However, due to lack of strong content for Salman Khan’s fans and negative reviews, it fell flat on Box Office. It was produced by SKF (Salman Khan Films) and also featured Sohail Khan, Matin Rey Tangu and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu in pivotal roles.
