Pahlaj Nihalani, the infamous chief of Central Board of Film Certification, has decided to distribute Julie 2, creating a stir. His decision has raised eyebrows, of course, because Nihalani became popular trying to ensure the ‘sasnkaari’ tag remained with the CBFC for as long as possible. The man who had issues with the length of a kissing scene, has now said that he made this decision because, Julie 2, was an ‘adult family film’.
The first poster of Julie 2 featured Raai Laxmi clad in a bikini and a magazine which she held protected a portion of her torso. The teaser of the movie further implied that it had an abundance of bold scenes and the actress has left little to the imagination. While many have raised questions about ‘sasnkari’ Nihalani’s decision to distribute this film, he has a different opinion. “It does not have scenes of obscenity or vulgarity and is a completely adult family film,” Nihalani said at the trailer launch on Monday, September 4.
Addressing the flak he received thanks to his ‘adult family film’ comment, Pahlaj Nihalani said,
People might think how I can be back with such a film even after being a sanskari. You all are looking at the film from the point of view of an erotic film. But every film has its own framework and its own ideas. When I listened to the story of Julie 2 in its initial stages, I found it to be very interesting as it is an inside-the-industry story.

Pahlaj Nihalani found it difficult to not heap praises on the makers and the story of this movie. Calling it an eye-opener, Nihalani added the movie would bring to attention how a few people are trying to demean the industry by their actions. Director Deepak Shivdasani also echoed Nihalani’s views and said no one should judge a book by its cover. Raai Laxmi who has done many movies in the South, said she has done whatever the script of the movie demanded.
A few months ago, Pahlaj Nihalani’s refusal to give certification to Lipstick Under My Burkha, calling it female-oriented, had created a controversy. When he was reminded of the same and told that Julie 2, was also about female fantasy, Nihalani said,
I know what you are referring to and all I would like to say is that there is no burkha here.
Julie 2 is a sequel to Shivdasani’s 2004 production Julie starring Neha Dhupia, and will release on October 6.
