SRK, Salman and Aamir to battle for Filmfare awards after 18 years. Will King Khan rewrite history?

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan will fight it out for the best actor male category at the Filmfare awards this year after 18 years

The nominations list in 10 categories for the 62nd Filmfare Awards was revealed recently. What makes this year’s edition of the award show more interesting is the fact that all the three Khans—Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan—have been nominated for the Best Actor in Leading Role (Male) category. It was in 1999 that it happened the last time when all three of them were fighting in the race for the black lady. Back then, SRK for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Salman for Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya and Aamir for Ghulam were nominated respectively.

This time around, SRK has bagged a nomination for Fan, Salman for Sultan, and Aamir for Dangal. Apart from the three Khans, the other nominees are Amitabh Bachchan (Pink), Sushant Singh Rajput (M.S. Dhoni: An Untold Story), Shahid Kapoor (Udta Punjab), and Ranbir Kapoor (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil).

Before 1999, the three Khans battled it out in 1996 when Shah Rukh was nominated for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, Salman for Karan Arjun, and Aamir for Rangeela. Both the times, it was SRK who defeated the other two and took the black lady home.

Shah Rukh Khan also holds the record for winning the Filmfare award for a record eight times. The only other actor to have achieved this feat is Dilip Kumar. So, if SRK wins this time he would be able to defeat the Thespian’s record. But, it would be quite early to pine hopes on SRK as the other Khans have smashed Box Office records and impressed critics with their power-packed performances in Dangal and Sultan.

Though the Filmfare awards are seen as a prestigious ceremony each year, this time it has received flak for being partial. Many have alleged that the awards show don’t give credit to hard work but to the stardom of the actors. All of this began when Akshay Kumar, who gave four hits in 2016, wasn’t nominated for the Best Actor category.
