Abhijeet Bhattacharya, playback singer whose Twitter account was suspended following his sexist tweet against student activist Shehla Rashid, is back with a new account on the micro-blogging site. The singer posted a video of him with ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ chant and alleged that anti-national forces were trying to curb his voice.
“I am against those people who raise slogans against the country and Indian Army,” the singer wrote in his first tweet. Adding further, Abhijeet said his main intention behind posting the video was to make his followers aware of the new account he opened on Twitter. “Unless I get a verified account of mine, please follow this handle. The rest accounts are fake,” he added.
On May 22, Abhijeet had gone overboard and posted an offensive tweet against Shehla Rashid, that evoked controversy. Later, his account was suspended for violating the community rules. Similarly, when actor-MP Paresh Rawal posted a controversial tweet about Booker Prize winning author Arundhati Roy over Kashmir, Abhijeet had suggested she should be ‘shot’.

After his account was suspended, Abhijeet in an interview to IANS had expressed his anger.”Twitter is a platform for anti-nationals, anti-Indian Army, anti-Modi, anti-Hindu and for terrorist supporters. I would say all are Naxals, they should be punished severely. It’s jihadi Twitter.”
Abhijeet found support from his contemporary Sonu Nigam, who had sparked a controversy by posting a tweeting against azaan, a call for Islamic morning prayers. The singer termed Abhijeet’s Twitter account suspension a clear example of the double-standard adopted by the social media site. He also questioned why wasn’t Shehla Rashid’s account suspended as well?
