Sonam Kapoor or Sonam K Ahuja (as she prefers to go on Twitter) pulled up a publication for its casual sexism. RTing a tweet around The Zoya Factor (a film starring Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan), she pointed out how the story called it ‘Dulquer Salmaan’s The Zoya Factor‘. Especially, when the film is literally about a girl called Zoya, where Kapoor plays the title character.
It’s quite the norm in Bollywood, where men are pitted against men, even when the films are named after the female characters. In the aforementioned tweet, the story mentioned how Dulquer Salmaan’s The Zoya Factor is ‘clashing with’ Vidyut Jammwal’s Commando 3 at the box office.
It’s called Zoya factor Bollywood life. I play Zoya. https://t.co/w28igGzy3k

Kapoor has had a productive week on Twitter, after she called out Vivek Oberoi’s distasteful meme about Aishwarya Rai. She had RT’d the meme calling it ‘disgusting and classless’. In an industry where rarely does an insider call anyone else out for their misdeeds, this was a refreshing change. Even though calling Vivek Oberoi an ‘insider’ would be stretching it.
The Zoya Factor, starring Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan in the lead roles, is an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s novel of the same name. The film directed by Abhishek Sharma, is set around a girl called Zoya who becomes a ‘lucky charm’ for the captain of the Indian cricket team, during the 2010 Cricket World Cup. The film is set to come out on September 20, 2019.
