Sonu Nigam is at the crosshairs of internet trolls who are in no mood to forgive him over the early morning tweet he posted on Azaan. He has refused to backtrack from his comments and is defending his stand against loudspeakers in temples and mosques.
After music composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid duo criticised Nigam and asked him not to hurt the sentiments, singer Mika Singh has voiced his opinion on the entire issue. “Big bro I respect u lot as a singer .. I think you should change your house and stay somewhere else instead of changing loud speakers,” he posted.
Adding further, the singer tweeted,”Guys Gurdwaras, Mandirs, masjids and churches aren’t only for loud speakers. They represent charity, langars and honourable things..” Mika’s remark evoked responses from Twitter users who praised him for his stand.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against the singer by an organisation named Raza Academy in Mumbai. Also, a cleric in West Bengal has announced an award of Rs 10 lakh for anyone who shaves Sonu Nigam’s hair and garlands him with old shoes before parading him throughout the country. The religious leader also dubbed the singer as an anti-national and added that nobody had the right to hurt the sentiments of a particular community.
On Monday, Sonu Nigam in a tweet had complained about being woken up by azaan, a call for prayer by muezzin of a mosque. He not only called it ‘forced religiousness’ but went on to call it goondagardi (hooliganism), thereby sparking a major controversy. His comments triggered massive reactions on social media, dividing the entire film industry on the entire issue. While Pooja Bhatt and Wajid Khan slammed the National Award winning singer, he found suppport in Richa Chadha and Vivek Agnihotri in the entire issue.
