Sonu Nigam azaan row: I’m not Muslim and I’ve to be woken up by Azaan, says Sonu Nigam in an early morning tweet

Sonu Nigam and his azaan remark—a fresh controversy in the making?

Sonu Nigam on Monday sparked a fresh controversy after his tweet on being woken up by Azaan (call for prayers from mosques) went viral. As early as 5:30 am on Monday morning, the singer went on a rant for being woken up with the sound of Azaan every morning, despite not being a Muslim. He also pointed out that he is against the use of electricity or loudspeakers  by any religious group to wake up those who don’t believe in a particular religion. He criticized Azzan for forcing “religiousness” on people.

“God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India,” read his tweet.

But he did not stop here and went on a tweeting spree.

And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?

And here goes another one by the singer.

I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?

Last but not the least, he ended his Twitter rant with this post.

Gundagardi hai bus…

However, the tweet didn’t go down well with his fans, who seemed to disagree with his harsh views on Azaan. Earlier, this year, Nigam found himself in another controversy, ironically involving the use of loudspeakers. In January this year, the singer used the aircraft address system of a flight mid-air leading to the ordering of air-hostesses.
