Swara Bhaskar challenged patriarchy and rules of society in her last movie Anaarkali Of Aarah. She played the role of an erotic singer who stood up for herself after being assaulted. The actress revealed that in real life too she went through something similar. Speaking to a leading daily, Swara revealed she was groped at an airport when she was busy with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Sharing the incident with DNA, Swara said that when people came to know that Salman Khan was coming to Rajkot, they thronged to the airport. It was then that she was groped by a man. She said Anupam Kher ensured she got into the car safely. “As a female artist, you know the feeling of being vulnerable in front of a crowd, which is why I connected with my character Anaarkali. You know that when we were shooting the Holi scene in Ranjhanaa, the production has put five boys from the AD team around us in that get-up, to protect us from the rest of the crowd,” Swara was quoted by the daily.
The actress said that there is not one woman who hasn’t experienced something like this. Speaking about the struggles fo women, Swara urged them to speak. Recalling another one of her horrific experience, Swara said she one slapped a guy who misbehaved with her and said women around did not expect her to react that way.
“The whole mentality of a molester, groper and an eve-teaser is the anonymity and the confidence that the girl won’t react. The moment you instil that fear in their head that the girl may react and she can beat the s**t out of them, they tend to stay away,” Swara added. She also told about an incident when a drug addict misbehaved with her and she beat him with an umbrella.

Talking about victim-shaming, Swara said that
“Indian women inherit this collective cultural unconscious — this sense of guilt, shame and dishonour. I think Indian girls need to become shameless and a little selfish too. It’s not about individuals, it’s about girls in general.”
The actress has made a point, again!
