Salman Khan starrer Tubelight hit the theatres across the globe on June 23. Upon its release, the Kabir Khan directorial has received mixed to negative reviews. Add to the woes, the performance of the 1962 Sino-India War drama has not been impressive either. In its first weekend, the film has collected Rs 64.82 crore at the Box Office.
On Sunday, June 25, Tubelight earned Rs 22.50 crore which is Rs 1.33 crore more than the amount it garnered on Saturday, June 24. On its opening day, the film earned R21.15 crore. At the Chennai Box Office, it is the third highest grossing film after Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA) and Vanamagan. Most importantly, Tubelight reported a lukewarm response overseas. According to Box Office India, the film has earned USD 3.50 million (Rs 2.25 crore).
In terms of its first weekend collections, Tubelight is much behind Sultan (Rs 105 crore), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 101.42 crore) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 97 crore). It is expected that the film might improve on Monday, June 26 which marks the festival of Eid.

However, negative reviews have not affected Salman as the 51-year-old actor said he was happy that the critics gave his film 1 or 1.5 stars. Adding further, he said that the film will turn out to be a hit and earn a lot of respect. Salman also said that it was not a film that you could watch with your friends and have fun at the theatres. “Tubelight is a film to be seen with parents, grandparents and the entire family,” he said.
