War Teaser: Hrithik & Tiger Shroff Star In YRF’s Most Ambitious Mountain Dew Ad Ever

Hrithik Roshan & Tiger Shroff's War seems like a calculated cash cow, aimed only at making money and 'entertaining' the masses that don't know any better.

Siddharth ‘Bang Bang’ Anand is back with a film after almost five years. Landing a coup of sorts, Anand’s new film sees his Bang Bang lead, Hrithik Roshan, face off against Bollywood’s action heartthrob, Tiger Shroff. Precisely a whole minute of Hrithik Roshan & Tiger Shroff going about their daredevil lives, the teaser of War resembles an action montage with exactly two seconds of Vaani Kapoor.

Rolling… Sound… LOTS OF ACTION!

They race bikes on a scenic mountain road in Europe, face-off on bikes a la the Dhoom/Mission Impossible franchise, they leap off roof-tops a la Bourne Ultimatum/ Casino Royale, they drift in fancy cars in a desert setting a la the Fast n Furious franchise, they go about shelling out ammunition in a middle-east setting a la Salman Khan’s Tiger films, and they leap off airplanes too. There are so many stunts packed into the minute-long teaser, one almost expects them to take a sip of Mountain Dew and say Darr ke aagey jeet hai.

The film’s name War is reminiscent of a Hollywood ‘project’ called, This Means War, starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy (both super-spies) pining over the same girl (Reese Witherspoon) while protecting the world. Given the Bollywood version’s frenetic action, it seems unlikely that it has borrowed its Hollywood counterpart’s elements of romantic comedy. This Means War is arguably one of the worst films in the respective filmography of its lead actors. Not that anyone really expects ‘plot’ in a Tiger Shroff movie (remember Baaghi 2? Or any of his other films), it does seem like YRF have a winner on their hands.

Bang Bang + Tiger Shroff = Rs 300 crore again?

Siddharth Anand’s last film featuring Hrithik Roshan (produced by Sajid Nadiadwala & Fox Star) grossed around Rs 340 crore. In the five years since his last film (which was an official remake of a Hollywood film – Knight & Day), Anand seems to have had exactly ‘zero percent’ growth as a filmmaker, where he’s trying to replicate the same tricks that yielded the blockbuster success of his last film. Fusing that with Tiger Shroff’s recent run as the next-gen action star, War seems like a calculated cash cow, aimed only at making money and ‘entertaining’ the masses that don’t know better.

One hopes Vaani Kapoor  shoulders some acting responsibility too. After a promising debut in Shuddh Desi Romance, the young actor’s career (with Befikre and this) has been rather dull and disappointing.

Here’s the teaser of War:
