Just when one thought the Central Board of Film Certification couldn’t surprise or rather shock with its decisions, it did exactly the opposite. The board chaired by Pahlaj Nihalani denied certification to Lipstick Under My Burkha, a film produced by Prakash Jha. By doing so, the board is being slammed again and is in the line of fire of relevant questions. Actor Sushant Singh questioned CBFC’s sanity and asked why films with sexual innuendos were given a green signal? He said the culture of the society won’t be destroyed by certifying Lipstick Under My Burkha.
The producer of the film Prakash Jha told news agency ANI he would approach the tribunal as this is the last option left to him.
Starring Konkana Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah in pivotal roles, the film is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. The film wad applauded globally for touching a topic like women’s sexual desires and giving a string message.
However, these lauds by viewers and film festivals all over the world weren’t good enough for CBFC. The board denied certification and the letter sent to Prakash Jha it said, “The story is lady oriented, their fantasy about life. There are continuous sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused.”
None of the people associated with the film was expecting this to happen. Director Alankrita told she wasn’t disheartened by the decision but became more stern to ensure the film is viewed by Indians.
