Dadasaheb Phalke Awards Academy has decided to return with an authentic awards function after a gap of three years with a motive to tell fake organisers that they are the only credible ones. Instituted by the Film Federation, the Academy will organise the awards function today.

With various organisers coming up with their own versions of the awards, Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson Chandrashekhar Pusalkar is upset that his grandfather’s name is being used as a commodity, reports DNA. “It is disappointing that Dadasaheb Phalke’s name has become a marketing commodity, being used for commercial gain,” said Pusalkar.

Saddened by the misuse of the name of Dadasaheb Phalke, Pusalkar further added that there are several other awards that have come up in the past few years when the Academy did not hold any.

“Initially, we welcomed other Dadasaheb Phalke awards, but later learnt that people were purchasing them backstage which questioned its credibility,” he said.

Talking about how others managed to proceed with awards in the name of Phalke, Ganesh Jain, Chairperson of Dadasaheb Phalke Awards Academy said, “We have been told that these people float big names in the market and generate sponsors for the awards. They are definitely not for a social cause. However, those accepting such awards are unaware of the fact that these aren’t real.”

Reportedly, Priyanka Chopra, Kapil Sharma and Juhi Chawla are to be awarded by the Academy this year.
