Delhi court sends actor Anuj Saxena of ‘Kkusum’ fame to three-day police custody in graft case

Earlier on February 16, the actor had surrendered himself before the court.

A Delhi court on February 17 sent actor Anuj Saxena, known for roles in TV soaps like Kkusum and Kumkum, to three-day of police custody in connection with a graft case involving former director-general of corporate affairs, BK Bansal. Earlier on February 16, the actor had surrendered himself before the court.

According to the CBI, Anuj Saxena, who is also a chief operating officer of Elder Pharmaceuticals, had bribed Bansal so that he does not order a Serious Fraud Investigation Office inspection against his company on charges of illegal collection of Rs 175 crore from about 24,000 investors and not filing tax returns on time.

Earlier in 2016, senior bureaucrat B K Bansal allegedly hung himself along with his son at their residence on the intervening night of September 26–27 with a purported suicide note claiming “harassment” by CBI. The incident occurred nearly two months after his wife and daughter committed suicide after a CBI raid at their residence.

The CBI court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against the actor after he failed to appear before the CBI, despite being summoned multiple times in connection with the investigation.

According to the CBI, Anuj’s company had allegedly lured investors by offering attractive rates of interest ranging from 9.5 per cent to 11.5 per cent on deposits ranging from a 12–36 month period.
