Lipstick Under My Burkha, the film revolving around the secret lives of four women of different age groups, recently got a clearance for release by the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) after being banned by the Pahlaj Nihalani-headed Censor Board. The tribunal ordered the makers to delete some scenes and granted it a release with an A certificate. It is now reported that the film will hit the theatres on July 28 after Ekta Kapoor decided to become the pan-India distributor of the Alankrita Srivastava directorial.
According to reports, Ekta was invited by the film’s producer Prakash Jha to watch the film that was denied a theatrical release due to the sexual content.”Not only was I totally blown away by the content but also felt that it showcased a great combination of accountability and entertainment,” the TV czarina told Mumbai Mirror.
Lipstick Under My Burkha signifies a rebellion of the mind and is a film that celebrates women and their sexuality. I believe that this is a story that needs to be told and wanted to put all my muscle behind a film like this,” the producer who brought about a landmark change in television, said. It should be noted that Ekta Kapoor produced Love, Sex Aur Dhokha in 2010 that had bold content.

Starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur, Lipstick Under My Burkha is a story about women claiming their rights over their bodies, their aspirations and fulfilment of their dreams. Last month, Konkona won the Best Actress award for her role in the film at the New York Indian Film Festival.
