Golmaal Again continued its exceptional run at the Box Office as the film raked in around Rs 29 crore on its third day, taking the opening weekend total to Rs 87.50 crore. The Rohit Shetty entertainer has performed fantastically across India with cash registers at Mumbai, Gujarat, and Rajasthan challenging the opening weekend collections of Baahubali 2.
The Ajay Devgn film recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2017 by surpassing the previous record holder, Tubelight, which had raked in Rs 64.77 crore. As the weekend progressed, the single screens, as well as the multiplexes, increased the number of shows of Golmaal Again due to the heightened demand from the audience.
Day Wise Collection:
Friday: Rs 30.14 crore
Saturday: Rs 28.37 crore
Sunday: Rs 29 crore (Early Estimate)
Total: Rs 87.51 crore (Early Estimate)
The movie is expected to enter the Rs 100 crore club on Monday, October 23, thereby being one of the few movies to breach past the threshold in four days. The movie is looking to emerge the biggest hit of the year and given the collections so far, the film is expected to easily breeze past the Rs 150 crore mark at the Box Office.
Golmaal Again has been made on a budget of Rs 90 crore (including print and publicity) and the producers are already in profits owing to the theatrical business as well as the revenue from ancillary sources which includes digital and music rights. The movie will be the 7th consecutive Rs 100 crore grosser for Rohit Shetty after Golmaal 3, Bol Bachchan, Singham, Chennai Express, Singham Returns and Dilwale.
Ajay Devgn too already has five films in the Rs 100 crore club and Golmaal Again would be the sixth one to attain this feat. In the long run, the film is poised to emerge as the biggest hit of Ajay Devgn’s career and will most likely surpass Singham Returns which had accumulated Rs 141 crore. Golmaal Again opened to generally negative reviews, however, the audience word of mouth seems to be on the positive side for the comedy caper which has resulted in massive Box Office collections.
The film has fared well in the overseas market too as it raked in 3.5 million dollars (Rs 22.78 crore) in its opening weekend. The success of Judwaa 2 and Golmaal Again have put a stamp on the fact that comic entertainers, if presented well, can do wonders at the Box Office.
