If Johnny Depp playing Gellert Grindelwald wasn’t enough to break you, this definitely will. It has been confirmed that Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore will appear in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them film series. We’ll just give you a moment to process that.
An official report in ScreenRant quoted the film’s director David Yates saying that the fan favourite wizard from the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter series will be featured in the second film. “In the second movie, Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good,” Yates said in an interview with ScreenRant.
Previously, Yates had stated that Dumbledore will just be mentioned in the film. David Heyman, the producer, also confirmed the reports of Dumbledore’s return to Business Insider.

Earlier, reports of Johnny Depp playing the role of Gellert Grindelwald, Dumbledore’s gay crush, had thrown the fandom into a frenzy. We already know that Grindelwald and Dumbledore were friends before the former turned over to the dark side. But, this latest reveal leaves room to delve deeper into the two wizards’ relationship. It has been highly speculated… well, it’s more of a wishful thinking that Colin Firth should portray the role of Dumbledore. However, as Yates said, they haven’t cast anyone for the role yet and are still struggling to find a perfect fit.
When J.K. had announced the five films for the Fantastic Beasts series, she had revealed that she had already plotted out the script for all films. Based on the script, Yates revealed that Dumbledore and Eddie Redmayne’s character of Newt Scamander will be spending quite some time together on-screen.
Fantastic Beasts will be set in a timeline decades before the events of Harry Potter and will revolve around Newt Scamander, a Magizoologist as a horde of mystical beasts take New York City by storm back in 1926. The first installment of the film is all set for its release on November 18.
