The last few days have been about Hollywood actresses recalling their ‘unsafe’ and ‘uncomfortable’ encounters with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Actresses including Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Kate Beckinsale and Gwyneth Paltrow have opened about their Weinstein’s predatory nature and his unwelcome advances. Recently, Priyanka Chopra was asked to comment on the matter and questioned if people like Weinstein existed in India. Her reply was a revelation of sorts.
Priyanka said she was pretty sure that not one but many Harvey Weinsteins existed in Bollywood and everywhere else. In an interview to Anne Fulenwider, Priyanka said these incidents have put the spotlight on the core issue. She explained it was more about men misusing their power and not about sex.
Here is what the Baywatch actress said:
An article published in New York Times exposed how Harvey Weinstein had been misusing his power for decades. Soon actresses like Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, and Lena Headley also revealed how the Hollywood mogul made advances towards them.
A few days ago Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s talent manager revealed Harvey Weinstein wanted some ‘alone time’ with the actress. She revealed:
This entire incident prompted women from all over the world to speak up against their predators. A social media campaign, #MeToo, was started in a bid to make everyone aware how big an issue sexual harassment is. Here are few reactions the #MeToo campaign got on social media:
Like millions of women, I have been sexually harassed since I was a child. #MeToo

Priyanka, just like you, we do hope the next generation of girls wakes up to a world sans Harvey Weinsteins.
