Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati is under the wrath of right-wing group Rajput Karni Sena of Jaipur. SLB was assaulted and slapped by a few members of the group on the sets of the film. Apparently, the group has problems with the way Rani Padmini of Chittor is being portrayed in the film.
Not only the film fraternity but many government officials and political parties also came out in support of the filmmaker and demanded strict action against the group. Amidst all this, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are leaving no stones unturned for the upcoming historical period drama ‘Padmavati‘.
Deepika Padukone will play the titular role of the queen of Chittor, Rani Padmini. For starters, this is the first time Deepika will be paired opposite actor Shahid Kapoor. The actor will essay the role of Rani’s husband Raja Ratan Rawal Singh. (Sorry Deepveer fans!)

Ranveer Singh who has been paired twice with Deepika in the past will play the role of sultan Alauddin Khilji. Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are being paired on-screen for the first time. Both the actors have gained critical and audience’s appreciation over the years and have a strong fan following. Deepika and Shahid’s on-screen chemistry is worth the wait. Recently, Deepika Padukone told a leading daily:
“It’s not a conscious decision. Those are the kind of roles that have been coming my way. You can call it my instincts or the timing, but that’s what I’m also attracted to. I think there’s a time and place for everything, so it’s not like I consciously pursue a film like Padmavati. It landed in my lap, and I think certain films are destined to have you in them. Either way, destiny plays a major role, as certain films aren’t meant for you.”

This is the first time Ranveer will be seen in a negative role. This will also be the first time that Ranveer and Deepika, despite working together in a film, are not paired opposite to each other. Ranveer Singh who always brings out the versatility in his acting will show an intense and dark side of Alauddin Khilji. He even compared his role with that of Heath Ledger’s Joker from ‘The Dark Knight‘.

The shooting of the movie has already started and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is making sure that the looks and the costumes of Ranveer, Deepika and Shahid stay well guarded. On being asked about his role in the film, Ranveer Singh spilled the bean and said:
“I’m scared of stepping into that rabbit hole. I fear if I go in, I may not come back. Like Heath Ledger. He didn’t come back. He went so far into the rabbit hole that it took away everything from him. I can say I’m living life on the edge.” The actor even confessed that he is scared about stepping into this uncharted territory. “I am absolutely petrified. It takes a lot out of you. Sometimes you feel empty…Like you have got nothing left. I probably may need some mental therapy. It does affect me to that degree. Hopefully, after ‘Padmavati’, I will do something light to keep a balance. I need time to recover. I am on the threshold of entering completely uncharted territory,”

His films feature beautiful locations with magnificent and lavish sets. There have been reports doing the round that Deepika is shooting for a song. The set is an exact replica of Padmavati’s Water Palace in Rajasthan’s ‘Chittorgarh’ Fort. The set has been in placed in Mehboob Studio.
