The first official trailer for the sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy has been released. If we were to go by the trailer, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 seems to be mainly centred around one character in specific, Baby Groot. Yup! An adorable, miniature, thick-headed, menacing baby Groot. But the best part of the trailer is there at the end.
The trailer opens with Rocket Raccoon (played by Bradley Cooper) telling someone that the fate of the universe rests on their shoulders. The shoulders in question, are those of Baby Groot, who can’t handle not pushing a button while pushing all of Rocket’s buttons.
After giving us a brief glance in the teaser back in October, the little alien has already won the hearts of the entire Marvel fandom with his overloaded cuteness. Some fans are already demanding that Baby Groot win an Oscar for his one line that is, “I am Groot!” But this little guy is more than just cuteness. He can kick some serious ass too.
But that can’t be right? The film can’t really be centred around a comic relief character now, can it? Or maybe, the filmmakers aren’t idiots to reveal the plot of the film in the trailer! Remember the trailer for Maisie Williams starrer The Book of Love? Damn! You don’t even need to watch the movie if you’ve seen the trailer.
Getting right down to it, the highlight of the trailer (the other highlight, stop focusing on Groot already!) was the revelation of Star Lord’s little crush on Gamora towards the end of the trailer! It was revealed that he has sexual, loving feelings towards the green-skinned alien.
Starring Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax in the lead cast, the film will pick up two months from where Guardians of the Galaxy left us. The band sets on an adventurous journey throughout the vast expanse of the universe to look for Star Lord aka Peter Quill’s true parentage. And from the looks of it, the film is finally getting more into the chemistry between Star Lord and Gamora.
The film is directed by James Gunn and is set to be released in summer 2017.
