Here’s how Freida Pinto made India proud by tackling food wastage and hunger at Oscars

At the Academy Awards, Pinto took the initiative to collect leftover food from Oscars parties and redistribute it among the hunger-stricken in Los Angeles.

You may or may not track the Oscars, but it is hardly possible to exist and not know that the Academy Awards are a big deal. Thanks to some astounding nominees and the unforgettable blunder with the Best Picture award presentation, the 89th Academy Awards was definitely a spectacle to behold. As spectacular as the event, the main course menu wasn’t any less. With shrimps, caviar and baked potatoes, the Academy didn’t spare any luxury. But, every year, a huge amount of this delectable feast ends up going to waste. However, Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto did not allow that to happen this year.

At the Academy Awards, Pinto took the initiative to collect leftover food from Oscars parties and redistribute it amongst the hunger-stricken in the city of Los Angeles, where Hollywood is based. The “So excited to be kicking off Oscar weekend with this fantastic initiative,” the 32-year-old actress said in an Instagram post. Normally, all the leftover food from the grandiose Oscars parties ends up in the trash every night after the party. On the other hand, there are millions of people who are still forced to live their lives on an empty belly.

So excited to be kicking off Oscar weekend with this fantastic initiative. This year #Copia and I team up with some of Oscar weekends biggest parties to recover excess food and deliver it to communities most in need in Los Angeles. #zerowaste #zerohunger Because this food is too good to be wasted. Thank you Women in Film for your incredible support @hellomikeamico

While others are vying for the gold tonight, we don’t mind taking the silver. #eatlikeastar #zerowaste #zerohunger #gocopia #oscars #vanityfair #academyawards #losangeles #foodrecovery #morethanenough
