The 59th Annual Grammy Awards were all about two artists as they mostly always are- Adele and Beyoncé. While it is common for people to display them as rivals, these two made it clear that they are far from that and perhaps we took it too far when Adele praised her competitor in her acceptance speech at the Grammys. As Adele extended one-half of a broken trophy down towards the audience, people assumed she had broken her Grammy to ‘split’ it with Beyoncé. But, did she really?
While Adele was still pretty modest and humble in her words, she didn’t go as far as breaking her ‘Album of the Year’ trophy to give to go splitsies with Queen Bey. Here’s the reality. After going backstage, Adele exchanged the two halves for a brand new trophy to keep just to herself. Not very generous with the awards, are we?

The 28-year-old singer was said she “died inside” when she heard her name get called out for the Album of the Year award. She deemed Beyoncé’s Lemonade more deserving than her album 25 in the category. After all, she is her “biggest fan”.

“I can’t possibly accept this award. The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-baring… We appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light,” she said in her acceptance speech.
“I thought it was her year,” she later added. “What the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”
While Adele’s 25 was widely acclaimed, Beyoncé’s Lemonade was more diverse and received nine nominations at the Grammys, the most of any artist this year. In spite of that, Queen Bey only managed to collect two awards while Adele won five, one for every category she was nominated in.
Well, whether she shared the trophy or not, Adele’s tribute speech was truly heartening and it got Beyoncé to shed a few tears so, what the hell!
