Shortly after releasing a teaser for their upcoming film, Universal Pictures released the full trailer for The Mummy. A reboot of the 90’s hit film (which was, in turn, a reboot of a 1932 film), The Mummy features a new cast and for a change, a female villain. Despite director Alex Kurtzman’s best efforts, the movie seems sub-par at best.
This upcoming film might as well have been directed by Michael Bay because it is literally just packed with action. The plot of the film is quite the same. Ancient mummy, nosy archaeologists, voodoo magic booby-traps, power hungry mummy runs free. The same goes here but, this time, with better special effects. Let’s give the mummy two eyeballs in each eye. Why? ‘Cause now, we can!

As evident from the trailer, events of The Mummy will kick-off in a desert after a mummified body of Princess Ahmanet is excavated. Also, the lead character, Nick Morton, seems to share some sort of a telepathic bond with the mummy as he is able to sense her presence around him.
Along with Tom Cruise in the lead role, Kurtzman, who has directed films like Transformers and Star Trek Into Darkness, is certainly bringing a Mission Impossible kinda feel to the film to which, fans haven’t exactly responded well. Why didn’t Tom Cruise just make another MI film if they were going to pull the same shit with The Mummy?
There was a similar problem with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Although the plot was decent, based in China and all, it wasn’t executed well and it turned out to be the worst of the trilogy. The Mummy Returns seemed to perfectly execute the action while retaining the mystical element essential to the film.
Even with mummies and everything, the previous films were more adventurous than horror and that seemed to work well. Kurtzman’s film feels a lackluster attempt to turn it into a horror film which has left him hanging midway with a crappy film and a dead franchise.
