Victoria and Abdul has released its first trailer and it is as delightful as can be. With the leading ladies of Bollywood moving over to the West, Ali Fazal will now be seen in his first big role in a Hollywood film. Starring alongside Dame Judi Dench, Fazal seems to be holding his own well.
Based on Shrabani Basu’s book of the same name, the film is set in a time when the British Empire still ruled over India. The story outlines the uncanny friendship between Abdul Karim and the then Empress, Queen Victoria. While serving as an attendant of the Queen, Karim grew really close to his ruler.

Dench will be seen in the shoes of the former Empress of India once again after 1997 film Mrs Brown. As evident in the trailer, Dench’s Queen Victoria exhibits a sense of vulnerability that seems to miss everyone’s eye but Karim’s. The British government doesn’t agree with the Queen’s friendship with a “peasant” and are hell-bent on declaring the long-reigning monarch insane.
