Central Board of Film Certification chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani is not a favourite of social media users, mostly because of his habit passing diktats and chopping off scenes from movies. This time around, Nihalani tried wielding his sword on Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal. He raised objection over the word intercourse and asserted he would take action against the makers for airing a mini trail without certification from the board. When social media went haywire after this absurd demand of Nihalani, he said he would not chop the word if it got 1,00,000 votes.
It seems social media was never this pleased to listen to Pahlaj Nihalani. As soon as channel Mirror Now aired the clip on June 23 that Nihalani is seeking 1 lakh votes to clear the word intercourse, Twitter users were happy to oblige. The poll which Mirror Now ran has till now got 90,000 votes. The poll closes tomorrow so there is still time to cast your vote.
As soon as this campaign to clear the word intercourse gained momentum, Pahlaj Nihalani disregarded the poll. “Look, I don’t want 1 lakh votes on Twitter. That won’t be difficult to get. I want 1 lakh votes on the same channel (with) whom I told that 1 lakh votes are required,” Nihalani told a leading daily. “Importantly, I will not settle for votes from unmarried people. And neither will I be satisfied if votes come from people who are less than 36-years old,” he added.
The reason for Nihalani not accepting votes from people more than 36 years old, waa quite weird. He said assuming that an average man or woman gets married at 23, and by 36 they have a 12-year-old child, and if they are ready to talk about intercourse to their child then he will clear the word. “You take voting from the public and I will clear the word (intercourse) on the promo and the film also. I want 1 lakh votes and I want to see that India has changed and Indian families want their 12-year-old kids to understand the meaning of this word,” Nihalani added.
