Advance bookings for Jab Harry Met Sejal opened across the country on Sunday and the response so far has been below expectations. While bookings at Hyderabad and Kolkata are quite good and at par with films like Raees and Tubelight, but in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and in Punjab, it is nowhere close.
The advance ticket sales is expected to pick up considerably on Thursday. However, given the response so far, reaching the Rs 20 crore mark on its opening day seems to be out of question, until and unless there is a huge surprise in terms of spot bookings on Friday, which seems to be unlikely.
Despite being a romantic comedy, the content of Jab Harry Met Sejal would appeal primarily to the audience in the tier one/tier two cities and it does not have a lot to offer for the masses of our country.
Even though the theatrical trailer and songs of the film are dissipating a youthful vibe, however, the makers might have taken a risk in launching the trailer just two weeks before the release as it’s impact is visible in the advance ticket sales. Still, it is Shah Rukh Khan’s star-power which has paddled the film to reach a decent advance sales figure, as the same film with any other star would struggle to even reach the threshold of a double digit number on the opening day.
As of now, the opening day of the film is expected to cash in 16 to 18 crores, however, as one can never accurately predict the collections, the figures may change.
The pan India distribution rights of Jab Harry Met Sejal have been sold to NH Studioz for Rs 70 crore (approx) and the film would be a termed clean hit if the collections are close to Rs 150 crore. Jab Harry Met Sejal would release on approximately 3200 to 3300 screens in India with a lot of scope for growth over the weekend.
