Jio MAMI Film Festival begins for all the Cine Buffs!

The festival will screen 175, including features, documentaries and short films from 54 countries

The best time of the year is here and this year too I am going to make the best of it. A weeklong Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Festival with Star will begin on 20th October. The festival will  screen 175, including features, documentaries and short films from 54 countries. Opening Ceremony of Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival will mark the re-launch of the iconic Royal Opera House.

All the Cine Buffs! If you planning to attend Mumbai Film Festival this year and are thinking of what movies to watch then may be I can help you chalk some three best movies among others from the schedule:

Personal Shopper – France
Director: Oliver Assayas
Another film from the After Dark section, which you should not miss! Oliver Assayas’ Personal Shopper has Kristen Stewart playing Maureen, a young american in Paris who works as a personal shopper for a celebrity. The story revolves around a ghost story that takes place in the fashion underworld of Paris. Assayas also picked up the Best Director award at Cannes earlier this year.

Elle
Director: Paul Verhoeven
Isabelle Huppert delivers a standout performance as a woman turning the tables on her attacker, in the controversial director’s electrifying and provocative comeback. The film is official entry for the Oscars this year, from France.

Bacalaureat (Graduation) – Romania
Director: Cristian Mungiu
Master filmmaker Cristian Mungiu bagged the Best Director trophy at Cannes this year with this film. The plot revolves around a doctor and his efforts to help his 18-year-old daughter, who is on the verge of graduation and has a long-planned scholarship in mind. Mungiu’s last film, ‘Beyond The Hills,’ won the best screenplay and actress award four years ago, at the Cannes film festival.

Also filmmaker Mira Nair is all set to premiere her short film Azaad in the Mela. Vikramaditya too will showcase his film Trapped, so will Priyanka Chopra’s Marathi film Ventilator. The highlight would be the first look of the much awaited S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion on October 22.

There will also be a rewind of the cult movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar with the entire cast, a facetime with the team of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and a conversation with actor Shahid Kapoor etc. Indian writer-director Sai Paranjpye and Chinese film-maker Jia Zhangke to be honoured with Excellence in Cinema awards. The festival will also celebrate the classic Teesri Manzil in its 50th year with panel including actor Aamir Khan, director Mansoor Khan and Producer Nuzhat Khan.

The Mela will also include some sessions and other activities. Jio MAMI Film Festival starts from 20th October to 27th October
