Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is merely a month away, writer J.K. Rowling has made a few shocking reveals on Thursday at the film’s Global Fan Event at Empire Leicester Square, London. First of, the trilogy has been renewed to a full five-movie film series. Rowling unveiled that the upcoming film will be the first of five films.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is set in the world that we all grew up in. No, not this one, that other one that lies beyond the pillar on platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross. The film, that will be a prelude to Harry Potter, is set in 1926 New York City, 70 years in the past from when Harry gets the letter from Hogwarts.
“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie, and we said a trilogy as a place holder,” Rowling said according to a BBC report. “But I’ve done the plotting properly and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.”
Shortly after the big reveal, Rowling was bombarded with questions from excited fans on social media. One fan remarked that five films would be too much, to which, Rowling replied, “I think when you realise what story we’re *really* telling, you’ll understand that it can’t possibly fit in one movie!”
Rowling added “There’s a natural arc to five” and said that she is currently adding finishing touches to the second film’s script.
Hollywood actor Eddie Redmayne will bring to life the character of Newt Scamander. Also starring Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, among others, Fantastic Beasts will feature a wizarding school in America.
What’s more? Well when the cameras were shut at the promotional event, the film’s first ten minutes were shown to the large gathering of muggles. Feel like killing yourself for not being there? Samesies.
The fandom’s already over-brimming excitement exploded when in the trailer, Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) name-dropped Albus Dumbledore. Director David Yates and Producer David Heyman have now revealed that Dumbledore will be featured in the film. Whoah!
“We do mention Dumbledore in this movie, and he kinda features a little bit in a wonderful scene between Colin and Eddie,” Yates said. Fantastic Beasts will premiere on November 17. Here’s the trailer, in case you missed it:
