Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon released last Friday and the film is struggling really hard to make its mark at the box office. The film’s opening collection was just Rs 6 crore, which is very less in accord to the kind of response it received from the film industry.
Rangoon has minted a total of Rs 17 crore so far domestically and sadly the film has crashed miserably at the box office. Set in the backdrop of pre-independence era, Rangoon is a period drama which features Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles.
It is a love triangle and the performance of all the three actors was highly praised by the B-Town celebs and the film critics. So and so that the film was even termed as the biggest blockbuster of this year. But the collections of the film tell a completely different story.
While everybody on social media blamed the bad performances of all the three actors for Rangoon‘s debacle, Kareena Kapoor Khan has come out in support of hubby Saif and Shahid-Kangana. In an interview with Pinkvilla, when Bebo was asked about the film’s failure, she said:
Some movies are beyond box office collections. Vishal Bhardwaj’s movies are always a piece of art. A few movies are for the actor’s appreciation.
Made at a budget of nearly Rs 80 crore, the film released in 1800 screens all across the country. Well, we really hope that after this statement of Kareena, people start thinking of the film as a piece of art and it might result in a good box office collection in the coming weeks.
