Known as the ”city of nawabs”, Lucknow has managed to remarkably hold on to its traditional roots. Be it classical music, art, and culture or amazing food, the city is really special for all those staying there and even the ones who have paid a visit. It is this tradition of Lucknow that has always piqued interests of filmmakers too. From time to time, filmmakers have flocked the city to have it as the backdrop of their films. From Farhan Akhtar’s latest offering Lucknow Central to Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra starrer Dawaat-e-Ishq, Bollywood has fallen in love with this place.

Lucknow Central:
Needless to say, the city is fast evolving as a major shooting destination for many Bollywood films courtesy the beautiful locales of the city. As the title suggests, the film captures Lucknow as a backdrop. The team has shot at iconic locations like Chota Imambara, Centennial College, Jahangirabad Palace, Malihabad, Roomi Gate, Kaiserbagh, Residency, and Lalbagh.
Ishaqzaade:
A love-revenge drama, the film featured Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in the main lead. Entirely shot in Lucknow, this Habib Faisal directorial beautifully captured the different moods of the city. Gauhar Khan’s popular song Jhallah Wallah has been entirely shot at the Ahmad Manjil, situated in old Lucknow.
Always Kabhi Kabhi:
Set against the background of a high school, the film was shot in renowned La Martiniere College of Lucknow. It featured Ali Fazel and Brazilian model Giselli Monteiro in the main leads. The college consists of two schools on different campuses for boys and girls. La Martinière Boys’ College was founded in 1845 and La Martinière Girls’ College was established in 1869.
Tanu Weds Manu:
Starring R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut in the main leads, the film brings back the essence of old Lucknow by capturing various historical monuments. The director used the Safed Baradari, a white marble building to show the wedding of Tanu (Kangana) and Manu (Madhavan) in the film.
Jolly LLB 2:
From stunning monuments to the busy roads of the city, the film took us to every nook and corner of Lucknow. The film not only used famous one-liners like “Muskuraiye Janaab Aap Lucknow Mein Hain,” but also made it a point to relate it to the story’s plot. Anu Kapoor’s accent in Jolly LLB 2 also added the Lucknowi flavour to the film.
Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl:
From the famous chikan embroidery to Lucknavi nazakat and tehzeeb, this Ranveer Singh starrer has beautifully captured the art and culture of the city. Ranveer and actress Aditi Sharma’s small portion that was shot in Lucknow brought immense weight to the film (rephrase this). From their outfits to the accent, the film has it all.
Dawaat-e-Ishq:
Last but not the least, this Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra’s starrer is about the rich art and culture of Lucknow. The film features Aditya as Taru, whose family owns the oldest kebab place in Lucknow and this is how the filmmaker used the essence of the city, as Lucknow is famous for Tunde Kabab.
