Malayalam Actress Abduction: Dileep Given Access To Case Documents, Victim Seeks Female Judge For Trial

A year after Malayalam actress was abducted and assaulted in a moving car on the way from Thrissur to Kochi, the Kerala High Court on Wednesday decided to hand over the documents related to the case to actor Dileep.

One of the most popular actors in the Malayalam film industry, Dileep is one of accused in the case.

Last month, Dileep had asked for access to the visuals of the attack but the court refused to hand it over after the prosecution claimed that it might affect the case.

According to the ANI, the actress has demanded that the case be shifted to a special court. Also, she requested for a female judge for the trial. The next hearing has been scheduled on March 28.

The case

On February 17, 2017, entire Malayalam film industry and the media was jolted by the news of a popular Malayalam actress being molested in a moving car. The actress was returning home and travelling from Thrissur to Kochi, after finishing her shoot.
After she spoke about it, several Malayalam film stars, like Mammootty, Prithviraj and Dulquer Salmaan came out in her support.
Two months after the incident, the first arrest in the case was made by the police. Pulsar Suni, the former driver of the actress, was identified as the prime accused. A chargesheet was filed against seven other accused.
Actor Dileep was arrested on July 10 for conspiring in kidnapping and molestation. He was sent in remand for 14 days, after the trial court rejected his bail plea.
Dileep moved to the Kerela High Court but the court rejected his subsequent bail pleas.
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) cancelled Dileep’s primary membership.
Dileep’s wife, Kavya Madhavan was also interrogated by the police.
