Last week saw the release of two major Malayalam films, Angamaly Diaries and Oru Mexican Aparatha at the Kerala Box Office. While Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries opened to good reviews with decent start in its opening weekend, Tovino Thomas starrer Oru Mexican Aparatha registered a thunderous start from the first show.
On second Friday, with no major Malayalam film releases except for Bollywood film Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Tamil film Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva, both the films were expected to carry the same momentum at the Kerala Box Office.
As per early Friday trends, Angamaly Diaries has started overtaking Oru Mexican Aparatha at the Kerala Box Office. At several places, more screens have been added to the film on public demand. In fact, the termination of recent Malayalam disaster, Veeram has helped in favour of Lijo Jose film to get additional screens. The film was also praised by Malayalam biggies Mohanlal and Prithviraj.
Meanwhile, after an impressive opening week, Oru Mexican Aparatha has started slowing down at the Kerala Box Office. The film, which had collected nearly Rs 9 crore in its opening week fared lower than Angamaly Diaries on its second Friday. The Tovino Thomas film was labelled as a hit. It, however, got dropped reasonably at the Cochin multiplexes with collections in the range of Rs 5 lakh on second Friday, as compared to the collections of Angamaly Diaries, which had minted Rs 6.50 lakh on Thursday 10 February.
