Pulimurugan’s glorious theatrical run at the UAE Box Office has finally come to an end. The Mohanlal film, directed by Vysakh and produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam was released on November 3, 2016 across the cinemas in UAE.
Upon its release, the Lalettan-starrer created history by emerging as the biggest Indian release at UAE Box Office till date. Pulimurugan was released in more than 430 screens and also broke the likes of 2016 blockbuster films like Kabali and Sultan. The Thalaivar film was released in 425 screens, while the Salman Khan blockbuster was released in 225 screens. Pulimurugan also emerged as the biggest opening Indian film at the UAE Box Office by minting Rs. 13.83 crore on its opening weekend.
And with its terrific 98-days run, Pulimurugan has ended up as the third highest running film at the UAE Box Office after Malayalam film Drishyam and Hollywood blockbuster, Titanic. Interestingly, Drishyam, another Mohanlal blockbuster holds the record of the highest running film in UAE with 125 days, while the Leonardo Dicaprio-Kate Winslet’s love drama still retained the number two spot with 110 theatrical days.
Pulimurugan has collected an excellent Rs 37.09 crore to become the only South Indian film among the top five Indian films at the UAE Box Office. The film has also broken the lifetime collections of many Bollywood blockbusters, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang and Aamir Khan-starrer PK.
Pulimurugan had the four-time-national award winner in the titular role of a hunter, Murugan. The film also featured Kamalini Mukherjee, Jagapati Babu, Lal, Vinu Mohan, and Namitha.
