Trust Sanjay Leela Bhansali to redefine grandeur and opulence through his movies, and he won’t disappoint. The first look of Padmavati which features Deepika Padukone as the brave Rajput queen is another show of SLB’s love for grandeur. The much-awaited poster was released earlier today and Deepika looks absolutely stunning in it. Dressed as Rani Padmini, Deepika looks resplendent in the poster. Her jewellery in the poster – everything from her bangles, necklace, maangtika and nose ring – exude royal charm. Another thing which attracts attention in the poster is Deepika’s unibrow, which is something the actress has tried to sport for the first time. The unibrow game is on point and she, of course, looks extraordinarily beautiful in the poster.
The other day, the lead actors of the movie – Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh – had announced the poster’s release. The first poster was released on social media by Deepika, with best wishes for the first day of Navratri as the caption. In the first one, you can see many veiled women standing behind Deepika. The second poster has a complete profile of Deepika wearing a decadent lehenga and heavy jewellery. Deepika’s expressions in both the posters give an insight about the courage and ferocity of Rani Padmini. It would be safe to say that no one other than Deepika would have pulled off this role with such conviction. Check out the film’s posters here.
Padmavati is the story of Rani Padmini who defied Alauddin Khilji, the ruthless ruler of Delhi. Khilji was reportedly swayed by Padmini’s beauty and wanted her to be in his life. A woman of honour, Padmini refused Khilji’s offers after which his bruised ego led him to attack the latter’s state. Padmini’s husband Raja Rawal Ratan Singh fought the invaders bravely but it was the final stroke of Padmini which rewrote history. She along with many women in her state jumped into a burning pyre to save herself from Khilji. This tradition is popularly known as Jauhar.

As rich as the story is in history, Padmavati has been in the news since it went on floors. Earlier there was a lot being written about the lead cast of the movie as reportedly many lead actors of Bollywood refused to be a part of the film citing that the story was about a female protagonist. The cast was finalised after a lot of hue and cry. After this, when the team went to Rajasthan to shoot for the film, a fringe group attacked the sets and assaulted SLB alleging he has a lovemaking sequence between Khilji and Padmini in the film. They alleged the movie would be demeaning their queen and finally, the shooting did not happen in Rajasthan. After many controversies and rumours that the movie won’t be releasing this year, Padmavati would hit screens as scheduled. This is a good news for all who have been waiting for the movie since a really long time.
