Pahlaj Nihalani condemns attack on Sanjay Leela Bhansali, asks 'What was state govt doing?'

Few members of the Karni Sena attacked Sanjay Leela Bhansali and vandalized the sets of Padmavat starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh

The current Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification or ‘The Censor Board’ in India. Pahlaj Nihalani condemned the attack by the members of the Karni Sena on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali saying that people try to stall films even before knowing what is there in film.

He further questioned the security provided by the state government asking them as why did they not provide security cover the film crew. “Before release no one knows the film’s story but people still try to stall films. What was the state govt doing? Why wasn’t protection given to the film’s crew?,”he said.

Meanwhile, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, the Founder of Rajput Karni Sena, the group that attacked filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and vandalised the set of Padmavati in Jaipur stuck to his stand saying that the things that are not present in the history cannot be shown. He further asked Bhansali if he would dare to go to Germany and make a film on Hitler.

He further said that Bhansali’s upcoming movie tampers with the history of their “ancestors’. “Said same thing during Jodha-Akhbar, things that didn’t exist in history shouldn’t be shown in films,” Lokendra Singh Kalvi said.

Yesterday, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ran into huge trouble when members of Karni Sena protested on the sets of Padmavati in Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur. Reports suggest that SLB was assaulted and slapped on the sets by few members of the group. To control the situation, his bodyguard is reported to have fired in air. The group is said to have problems with the way Rani Padmini of Chittor is being portrayed in the film.

This is the same organisation which had problems with the release of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar. Back then they said the name of Jaipur princess married to Akbar was wrongly shown in the film. Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Ranveer Singh as Delhi’s ruler Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor in the role of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh.
