Prakash Raj, who is known to be critical of the government and its policies, is back in the news. The acclaimed actor sent a legal notice to Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha alleging that Simha made derogatory remarks on him on social media and television interviews. The legal notice includes Simha’s tweet and a Facebook post dated October 2.
On October 2, Simha had apparently tweeted:
Being sad due to son’s death, having left your wife and ran behind a dancer, do you Mr. Raj have any right/legitimacy/worthiness to say anything to Yogi-Modi.
In 2004, Raj lost his four-year-old son to an unfortunate accident when he was flying kite. On October 3, Simha told a news channel:
Your name in Kannada is Prakash Rai and Prakash Raj in Tamil Nadu. You change your name and identity according to your convenience and necessity in different states.
Addressing the media in Bangalore on Thursday, November 23, Prakash Raj said he sent a notice not because Simha belonged to BJP, but because he wanted to fight back trolls and in an effort to save the ‘social fabric’ of conversation. He said,
Today people who are voted are shamelessly trolling. If he does not answer legally I will be taking action. He was trying to instigate and it has made my personal life difficult. When I’m sharing my hurt you can’t troll me and ask your followers to troll.
He added:
He represents a constituency and I’m worried about the women there as the youth are following him. We need social media, we need discussions but don’t strike below the belt. Don’t destroy the social fabric. In this light, I have taken this stand. I will fight, he might be an influential person.
Calling Simha a ‘serial offender’, Prakash Raj recalled the time when the former called the wife of late senior leader Mahadeva Prashad alleging that he was greedy for power.

When Prakash Raj was asked why he didn’t criticise the government earlier, he said the death of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh was a wake-up call for him.
I should have started asking earlier. But I changed after death came to my doorstep. I thank Gauri.
Responding to the legal notice served to him, Pratap Simha denied the allegations of personal attacks against the actor. Not only this, Simha challenged Raj to join politics to see who had a larger following.
The statements which Prakash Raj made at the press conference proves he is willing to not back down, even if it means going head-to-head with a politician. While many people resort to answering trolls on social media, Raj went a step ahead and sent a legal notice. The National-Award winning actor has slammed the government on Twitter too.
