On his 34th birthday, actor Ranveer Singh unveiled the first look from ’83 the upcoming biopic on cricketing legend Kapil Dev. With a mop of curly hair and that trademark focus, Ranveer looks uncannily like a young Dev.
Talking to IANS about playing the legend, Ranveer said, “Playing a living legend poses a unique set of challenges, and your approach to the preparation for that character has to be all the more intensive. And it has been. But at the same time, it has been very rewarding and fulfilling.”
Directed by Kabir Khan, the film held a training bootcamp in Dharamshala, where the ‘Haryana Hurricane’ joined the cast, along with Mohinder Amarnath. The biopic will relive the incredible moments in 1983, from the point of the dynamic captain who led India to its historic World Cup win. Kapil Dev was only 24 when he and his team defeated West Indies in the 1983 WC finals, to bring the cup home for the very first time.
Deepika Padukone will play Kapil’s wife, Romi Bhatia in the film.
