Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming Tamil science-fiction action drama 2.o, which was earlier scheduled to release for Diwali this year, has been postponed to 25 January next year. Revealing the change in the dates of the much-awaited film, the makers said this was done to achieve world class standards in VFX. This, in turn, means that the three-way clash in Diwali this year. Now the big clash is between Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again and Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar.
A sequel to Rajinikanth’s own 2010 Tamil blockbuster Enthiran, the film also stars Amy Jackson, Akshay Kumar, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain.Akshay is being introduced to Tamil filmdom in the role of an antagonist. The film features Rajinikanth in dual roles – a scientist and a robot.
Made on a reported budget of Rs 450 crore, the movie will simultaneously release in Telugu and Hindi.
Before the makers of Golmaal Again announced their release date on 6 October, the date was already booked by Secret Superstar and 2.o. Trade experts said that though the clash between these two biggies would be one of a kind, a festival like Diwali could easily accommodate both the films. They asserted that none of the movies would eat into the collections of the other. It was also reported that Aamir Khan called Rajinikanth to tell him about the clash and ensure that the relationships between then remained unaffected.
But when Golmaal Again joined the club of Diwali releases, the dynamics changed. The competition became fierce. The stepping down of 2.o has raised eyebrows. While the team has said that the sole reason of this is the fact that the VFX would take a lot of time, we wonder if that’s all? Undoubtedly, the stardom of Rajinikanth cannot be challenged in the South but it cannot be denied that Pan India it would be the magic of Golmaal Again that would work. Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal is one of the most successful franchisees of Bollywood and behaves as an extreme crowd puller. So, it won’t be completely wrong to decipher that maybe the makers changed the dates to avoid being the one at the losing end of a battle.
