Kavi Kumar Azaad famously known as Dr. Hathi of the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma breathed his last on Monday afternoon in Mumbai.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the actor was unwell and suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday morning. He was undergoing treatment at Wokhardt Hospital at Mira Road where he slipped into coma on Sunday night.
“We are very sad to inform loss of our senior actor Kavi Kumar Azaad. He was playing the character of Dr. Haathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma. We lost him to a massive cardiac arrest today morning. He was an amazing actor and a very positive person. He truly Loved the show and always came for the shoot even if he was not feeling well. He called today morning that he is not well and will not be able to come for shoot. And later we got the news that he passed away. We are all too numb to say anything,” Asit Kumarr Modi said in a statement.
India Today reported that his co-actors are in a deep shock and the shoot has been cancelled too.
Azaad played the role of Dr. Hansraj Haathi in the show whose peculiar performance was popular among the viewers. Besides being part of India’s longest running sitcom, Azaad had also worked in movies like Aamir Khan’s Mela and Funtoosh.
