Days after Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam expressed his anguish over “forced religiousness” in India after being woken up by the azaan (Islamic call to prayer) from a nearby mosque, its Maulvi on April 18 claimed that people living in the nearby area have no problem with the sound of the prayer.
Meanwhile, mosque’s trustee Ghulam Dastgir Parkar claimed that in the recent past, singer Sonu had filled several police complaint regarding the issue by using different names.
In yet another attack on the singer, mosque’s trustee alleged this as a publicity stunt and said that Sonu did this to come into limelight as he is going through a drought phase in his career.
“This is a publicity stunt. If he was facing any such issued he would have talked to us regarding this,” the mosque’s trustee said.
“Sonu should understand that azaan’s voice is much more melodious than his voice,” mosque’s trustee asserted.
Earlier, on April 17, Sonu Nigam, who is known for hit Bollywood songs like Zoobi Doobi, Kal Ho Naa Ho, among others, took to his Twitter handle to share his anger and wrote: “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India?”
Further clarifying his stance, Nigam tweeted, “And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?
“I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion. Why then..? Honest? True? Gundagardi hai bus,” Sonu said in an another tweet.
