Like the recent spurt of Bollywood films releasing in China and finding a new lease of life, Sridevi’s last feature film, Mom, has had a big opening there as well. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Mom made Rs 11.47 crore on the opening day, and ₹41.81 cr over the weekend, taking Mom’s lifetime earnings to ₹107 crore.

The film starring Akshay Khanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pakistani actors Adnan Siddiqui and Sajal Aly in addition to Sridevi in the lead was earlier slated to release in China on March 22. But it eventually released after Andhadhun, which went on to gross ₹335.1 crore approximately in China alone, pushing its lifetime earnings to ₹441.1 crore.

Earlier Aamir Khan’s Dangal made an estimated Rs 1,300 crore in China, majorly contributing to the film’s global box office of almost Rs 2,100 crore. Thanks to Dangal’s success at the Chinese box office, the film is now the highest-grossing Indian film ever and the highest-grossing sports film worldwide.
Secret Superstar, another Aamir Khan project, starring Zaira Wasim in the lead and Khan himself in a minor role, also became the highest-grossing Indian film featuring a female protagonist in addition to becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2017, thanks to its release in China.
Mom also released in Poland, Czech, Russia, UAE, UK, USA, and Singapore. It won two National Awards including a posthumous Best Actress win for Sridevi in 2018.
